From zero to six billion hours in 10 years. The highlights in our best-of video to commemorate YouTube's anniversary.
Nipplegate? A tsunami? Or just a dinner party? Whatever the event, how the stories unfold is testament to the strength of our imagination. A decade ago, the three founders, Chad Hurley, Steve Chen and Jawed Karim, had the idea for something that we take for granted today: to share videos quickly and easily, online and across the world.
And where is YouTube now, 10 years later? The most popular online video platform is owned by Google and accessible in 75 countries. The platform is regularly visited by one billion users, 80% of whom live outside the US and 50% of whom view videos on a mobile device. Together, this amounts to six billion hours per month of viewing time.
To commemorate YouTube's anniversary, we have cut together our personal highlights of the past 10 years into a video eulogy. Happy birthday YouTube!
